PROJECTION TV
There are two types of projection TV:
- Front Projection TV
- Rear Projection TV
Front projection TV make use of an external projection device that shines the image on the screen similar to what you see in the movie theaters. Front projection TV are costlier as compared to rear projection TV.
In rear projection TV image is projected on the screen to create a large image. In a rear projection TV the image is reflected and projected on the screen from behind the screen as compared to film projection in which the projector is placed in front of the screen.
TYPES OF PROJECTION TV
There are four types of rear projection TV:
- 1. CRT
This has been around for many number of years. It makes use of cathode tube ray technology .The cabinet depth of these models is large to beam light from the tubes to the TV screen. The screen sizes start from about 40 inches. The viewing angle is narrow in these models.
- 2. DLP
Also known as Digital Light Processing, they are thinner as compared to CRT models. The depth of DLP models is 15 inches as compared to 24 inches of CRT. A light is shot through a spinning color wheel on millions of tiny mirrors which flash color on the screen to produce an image.
- 3. LCD
LCD has a higher resolution as compared to DLP. The cabinet is also slimmer as compared to CRT's. LCD projection TV's emit brighter pictures as compared to CRT's. The viewing angle is limited as it can only be seen best when sitting in straight line with it. LCD projection requires periodic replacement of lamp.
- 4. LcoS
Also called liquid crystal on silicon. It is one of the newest technology. It combines big screen with a thin cabinet and high resolution.
