FLAT PANEL LCD TV

Flat panels are capable of creating crisp and bright images using LCD screens. Most of the models are 4 inches deep or less than that. Flat panels are giving tough competition to tube TV's. Flat panels are gaining ground and their prices are also nosediving.

There are certain pros and cons of a flat panel TV:

PROS

Since they are light weight and they have shallow depth they provide various placement options. You can either place your sets on the table or cabinet or mount it on the wall.
You can enjoy digital display precision.
Flat panel TV's are not susceptible to magnetic picture distortion.
Flat screen TV's provide the benefit of perfect image focus so a straight line will appear straight on the TV.

CONS

They are expensive as compared to tube TV.
The picture quality of flat TV does not match that of tube TV in the areas of black level,smooth motion and contrast ratio. They are also susceptible to distortions,noise etc.

Flat panel LCD TV use less power and they are light weight. They are not prone to burn-in although the picture quality is less natural as compared to plasma TV. LCD as a flat panel choice is suitable for screen sizes under 37 inches. LCD displays are good at resisting glare from room light or sunlight. The display types of LCD is rugged. Since it is not prone to burn-in it can be ideally used for video games and computing. LCD would be safe choice if you have the habit of leaving your TV switched on with a scrolling ticker.

POINTS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE PURCHASING A FLAT PANEL

HDTV READY OR HIGH DEFINITION UPGRADEABLE

If the term HDTV is mentioned on a flat screen it would imply that the TV can produce highest resolution hence you can watch excellent pictures. Upgradeable would imply that you need to install a separate receiver if you want to watch high definition mode picture.
16:9 ASPECT RATIO

This ratio enables you to enjoy movies in the same way as you would watch in a movie theater. 16:9 aspect ratio means for every 16 inches wide the screen is 9 inches high.
